Hairnet Factory

Peekskill, NY
Adaptive Reuse

A wagon factory circa 1830’s and a blacksmith shop built around 1850 were combined into one factory building used as a hairnet factory in the 1950’s.  This factory closed in the 1980’s, and the building sat vacant until the current owner bought it with the goal of creating artist housing and a coffee shop in downtown Peekskill, NY.

Restoration of the building included repair to one existing storefront and replication of three others.  Brick and wood facades were also restored to their original condition.  Structural alterations included replacement of first floor framing, reinforcement and repair of second floor framing and partial replacement of roof framing.

The first floor space is currently used as one commercial tenancy.  The second floor is divided into two loft-style apartments, each with a private roof deck.
